Girls Tag Rugby at Scarborough Rugby Club on Tuesday 12th October 2021

On Tuesday 12th October 2021, Mr. Mellor took a team of seven girls to a Year 5/6 girls tag rugby tournament at Scarborough Rugby Club. The team was as follows: -

Aggie K, Alex G, Charlie W, Martha R, Sophia J, Kate P & Tabitha P.

Match One v Gladstone Road - Lost 5 tries to 4

The girls just lost out in an end to end match, with Sophia scoring two tries, Kate getting one and Tabitha the other.

Match Two v Wolds & Vale - Won 6 tries to 3

The girls put in a sterling performance scoring some excellent team tries through Tabitha, Charlie who scored two (one an interception try running the length of the pitch), Kate scored two also and Sophia got the other. Aggie unselfishly passed the ball for Tabitha to score her try when she could have touched the ball down herself. Martha would have also scored had she not tripped when about to touch down & dropped the ball.

Match three v Seamer - Won 7-5

In a thrilling match that could have gone either way, the girls eventually ran out winners, mainly due to some excellent team work involving Sophia and Tabitha, resulting in Sophia scoring two tries and Tabitha scoring four tries. Alex scored our other try.

Match four v Lindhead - Drew 5-5

The girls tired slightly towards the end of the game after playing their fourth successive match of ten minutes each with only a minute in between each game. Once again, Sophia and Tabitha excelled with some excellent backing up of each other resulting in Sophia scoring two tries and Tabitha getting another three tries.

The girls should be very proud of their performance and team work, whilst displaying a sporting attitude during the games. A big thank you to all the parents for bringing the girls to the tournament, and giving great support.
