Travel and Transport
During this exciting topic we will focus on bridges, rockets and boats! There are so many bridges all over the world: large, small, old, new, famous, local, metal, wooden, for cars, for trains or for people! Children will design, make and test their own bridge. We will move onto space travel, making and launching our own rockets. We will look at famous astronauts and local aviators. Finally, we will explore the amazing journeys of boats, such as the Titanic, through the oceans of the world. Can children make a boat that doesn’t sink? We’ll soon find out!
We will be going on a trip around the world to China, India, America and to our home - the UK. We will look at similarities and differences between these countries and the UK. Are animals around the world different? What does traditional food taste like from different countries? How do people celebrate Chinese New Year? Who was Christopher Columbus and where did he voyage to? We can't wait to explore these different countries.
We follow the Letters and Sounds phonics programme, as recommended by the Department of Education, to teach phonics. Our reading programme is Bug Club which is accessed online using your child's username and password.
Please ensure your child has an indoor and outdoor PE kit in school at all times.
