The invention of Hugo Cabret!
Our main theme this term will explore this award winning mystery story. We will use this book as a stimulus to develop our:
· writing skills and styles
· reading strategies, inference and deduction skills
· creativity, Art and design skills
ORPHAN, CLOCK KEEPER, AND THIEF, twelve-year-old Hugo lives in the walls of a busy Paris train station, where his survival depends on secrets and anonymity. But when his world suddenly interlocks with an eccentric girl and her grandfather, Hugo's undercover life, and his most precious secret, are put in jeopardy. A cryptic drawing, a treasured notebook, a stolen key, a mechanical man, and a hidden message from Hugo's dead father from the backbone of this intricate, tender, and spellbinding mystery. World War 2
This term we are going to study WW2. We will look at why the war started, evacuation, The blitz, rationing and the home effort. We will hopefully be able to visit Eden Camp to further our knowledge and understanding of this period of History.
This term we will be looking at our planet Earth. We will explore different biomes and vegetation belts across the world through Literacy, Art, Geography and Science. We will look at maps and atlases to locate these places and explore each in detail. We will record our work in a variety of way including writing, Art and design technology.
Y5 children will get homework set on Friday in English and Maths. This is to be completed for the following Friday. In addition to this, they will also get spellings to learn that are from the statutory word list for Y5/6 and reading homework focusing on developing comprehension skills. Class 2 are expected to read on Bug club at least 4 times a week.
PE kits are to be in school every day and left on their pegs until Friday. Scheduled PE sessions for Class 2 are Monday and Thursday. Please ensure all clothing is labelled clearly so that lost items can be returned easily and quickly!
