Fifth Station: Simon Of Cyrene Helps Jesus Carry His Cross by Matthew T & Alex
How we painted the picture:
We started by putting the tiniest bit of red into some white paint, and painting it along the top of the paper.
Then we put a bit more red in the white gradually making the colour bolder.
This is supposed to represent the blood of Christ.
Then we did the grass, which obviously was green. You will notice that the woman (featured in the centre bottom),
has a lily in her hair is to represent purity; the dove above Jesus’ head represents peace.
I enjoyed painting this picture because it was a change to Maths, Science and English.
The man on the right-hand side of the picture is Simon of Cyrene though that ought to be obvious because Jesus is covered in scars not Simon of Cyrene.
How we tried to copy some of the pre- Raphaelite techniques:
We used Jane Morris for the lady featuring in our picture, though we used blonde hair that was mixed with gold and white. For the streaks we just used plain gold.
For the skin we mixed peach, orange and white. For the cross we painted it in a shade of brown called burnt seina (witch is a redy brown) then we put black streaks on the wooden cross that Jesus of Nazareth and Simon of Cyrene were carrying to Skull Hill and Jesus’ execution.
