Third Station: Jesus Falls For The First Time painted by Tyler & George

This painting is not mentioned in the gospels.

How we painted the picture: Firstly we got to practice sketching Pre-Raphaelite models; ours was Fanny Cornforth, Jane Morris and Annie Miller. Also, most of the models usually had a strong dominant chin with a gingery, red, fire colour for their hair and wiry fingers. If you are wondering what the dove is for – it relates to when Jesus was getting baptised a dove was above him and there was a voice which boomed down "This is my son!" and also it’s a sign of peace.

Then we moved on to sketching our Stations Of The Cross which we started with by George drawing the Roman soldier, I drew Jesus so then we both did the women and the dove.

We first painted the background which represents the blood of Christ and the light of the world being put out. We started off lightly then began to get darker until we were at a light crimson colour. Next we painted the dove which was just a white colour with a yellow beak with a black eye. Next we painted all the characters’ faces a brown colour.

But then disaster struck, George accidentally mixed the wrong colour and the women’s face came out as a horrible creamy brown colour, so we left it to dry and then painted it the brown colour again!

We chose a grey for the roman helmet because this is part of their uniform and we also added a plume to show his authority, we then decided on a red, yellow pattern for his top. For the women we gave her a Pre-Raphaelite colour for her hair and a darker brown colour for her face and hand. Jesus, we decided on a brown and a bit of black for his hair and the same skin colour as the soldier.
