Second Station: Jesus revives his cross. Painting by Lauren & Rebecca

Lauren: First the class started of drawing Pre-Raphaelite women and Mr Bortoft put them in a book. Then I and Rebecca drew a picture together and that was going to be our model for our picture.

After we had the idea of what our painting was going to look like we started to draw on the big piece of paper. On our picture we had a woman and the woman that we modelled was called May Morris we only used the eyes, lips and hair and the rest of the girl was from our minds.

Rebecca:

Then it was the painting part, my favourite part, but I found that it is harder then I expected. I liked mixing colours lot because the sky was mixing. We started off with a really light and at the end it was crimson.

Next we painted the cross we painted it all one colour then added the detail to the cross like the wood chippings and other things as well.

May Morris was one of the two daughters of the poet and craftsman, William Morris and his wife Jane. In this study, Rossetti has given May the strong look of her mother, with whom Rossetti was infatuated. This painting bears the inscription ' M.M. aetat X1872', the year of Rossetti's collapse. Both May and her sister Jenny were fond of Rossetti, who often asked after them, once even offering to adopt May. May later edited her father's works, and wrote a biography of him.
