Eleventh station: Jesus is Nailed to the Cross.

During its construction;

Ruth;

Originally, this painting belonged entirely to someone else, except the painting of it went wrong; our teacher came and asked me to choose two other people to help me paint it.

Before that though, I was asked to draw it, (the picture), and once again, if you’d read my other reports, you’ll know what I mean - I used Elizabeth Siddall, she’s the ideal model for these pictures.

You will also gather from my previous report that I was looking forward to painting the sky blood red’s and pink’s, which I got to do again.

Emma;

When Ruth had drawn the picture ( Jesus is nailed to the cross,) she invited Bex ( Rebecca), and I to help her paint as we only had one day.

When I came back from my music lesson, I found the sky had already been re-painted.

I started by mixing the colours, to paint Jesus’ face, it was a bit dark at first, but when it dried we all breathed again and Ruth was very pleased with the result!

Finally, we filled in all the details, such as eyes and lips.

This was painted all in one afternoon; we finished just in time for the busses!

How we tried to copy some of the techniques used by the Pre-Raphaelites.

Once again, Ruth went for the medieval look for the woman, a classic roman soldier, with the big red plume on top. Because Jesus had been stripped we thought it would look good to put only half of him in.

Again, she put in the straight jaw line and nose, full, small lips and intended the hair to be red.

As we painted, we put in the classic dove, to represent peace, and the lily, (we now know represents purity, again see Ruth’s first report.)

Even though technically this is not our painting,

It was great fun all crammed into one afternoon.
