On Wednesday the 11th of February, the Y6’s at St. Martin’s school held a feast of the Passover in the hall. The feast consisted of lamb, bitter herbs, charoset, salt water, matza, roasted egg, green herbs and wine.

Father Tony was the leader of the Passover. At 9.15 we started the Passover festival. Around halfway through we had the feast, which started off as parsley dipped in salt water to remember the tears of the slaves. Then the roasted egg was to remember new life, followed by lettuce and bitter herbs to remember the bitter times in Egypt, after that came the unleavened bread to remember the bread that didn’t rise, then the leg of lamb to remember the lamb that was sacrificed, and charoset was to remember the cement that was used for building and the sweetness of freedom.

The feast was a great success and nearly everyone got to read out something from the bible or a prayer. After all that we had a song called Dayeinu-which means that would have enough.

On our table was me, (Poppy) Ruth, Rebecca Smith, Charlotte, Lucy, Lauren.

The funniest thing that happened was when we made each other sandwiches what were made of charoset and horseradish. Tyler (who was sitting next to Lauren on the next table) gave Lauren a sandwich. Lauren didn’t know what was in it, but a couple of seconds later she did-it was crammed full with horseradish. When she found out she rushed to the toilet to spit it out.

I had to wash the leader’s (Father Tony) hands, and then, at the end of the service, after we all said ‘NEXT YEAR IN JERUSALUM’ I had to go and look out of the door to see if Elijah was there. Every year Jewish people hope that Elijah comes to announce that the Messiah is coming. Finally we sang Deyeinu.
