Having graduated with a degree in Education in 1978, I was very lucky to gain a teaching post near my home town of Lincoln. I taught a transition class of Y2/Y3 pupils for 2 years, which was wonderful experience for my future career. I then moved to Scarborough, having married my husband whom I had met at college.

I taught at East Ayton Primary School, across a wide age range, until having twin daughters in 1984.

I returned to teaching in 1990, by doing a spell of supply work at Hunmanby CP School. I then joined the Learning Support Service, working as a peripatetic tutor, teaching pupils with Special Educational Needs, in small groups.

I eventually became a Learning Support Teacher, teaching and assessing pupils with SEN in mainstream schools throughout both the Primary and Secondary sectors. During this time, I gained 2 Certificates in – a) Teaching Pupils with Learning Difficulties and b) Teaching Pupils with Specific Learning Difficulties. In 2002, I obtained my Certificate in Advanced Education Studies (SEN Specialist), with particular interest in “Dyslexia” and “Handwriting Difficulties”.

I thoroughly enjoyed these challenges but felt ready for a change in January 2003, when the opportunity to teach at St. Martin’s arose. I feel very lucky to be teaching the Y6 Booster Group and the pupils with SEN and feel that we have fun, alongside the learning.

Apart from school, family life is still very important to me. However, as my daughters are now at University, my husband and myself are able to pursue other interests together - and with friends - such as travelling, walking, golf & reading.
