Charles Pople was born and went to school in Liverpool.

He spent 4 years at Oxford University (Hertford College) studying firstly Modern History and then for a Post Graduate Diploma in Public and Social Administration.

He entered local government as an administrative trainee with The Greater London Council, and subsequently worked with seven other local authorities over a period of thirty years as a training and personnel officer.

Charles retired in June 2002 and is now a self-employed human resources consultant.

Married with four children, the youngest of whom, Ruth, spent four years at St. Martin's before going on to secondary school. The oldest of his three grandchildren is now progressing through Key Stage 1.

Charles has been a Youth Group Leader and a Lay Reader with the Church of England for twenty years. He now acts as Sub Warden for the Scarborough Deanery. He has served on various Parochial Church Councils, Deanery and Diocesan Synods.

As a governor, Charles' particular interests are policies, personnel matters, equal opportunities and history within the curriculum.
