I have wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember. At junior school I had a teacher called Mr Randerson. He played his guitar for us, introduced us to ‘Joseph and his Amazing Technicoloured Dreamcoat’ (I’m still a big fan) and took us for rounders on the field. I thought, "That’s a good job – I want to do that." So I did.

I left university in 1992 and then went to Poland for a year. I taught English at Rzeszow University and a number of private schools in the town. On my return I was lucky enough to get a teaching job in Scarborough.

I greatly enjoy my work and am lucky enough to have fun everyday. Out of school I enjoy family times – my wife and I have two young boys who keep us busy and entertained (and permanently tired!). Other hobbies include cycling, playing guitar, listening to music and caravanning – we’re the ones who hold you up on the road!
